In June 2017, Iban Ifiok was co-founded by Dr. Idorenyin Ataudo Udosen and Ms. Mmekom Udosen, a mother and daughter duo. They believed that they could bring meaningful change to the lives of young girls. Iban Ifiok, which is Ibibio for “women of wisdom,” was used by the organization to emphasize that women with wisdom possess the tools to accomplish great things in life. We celebrated our anniversary by hosting a fun-filled and inspirational picnic at Ibom Icon Hotel & Golf Resort. Not only did our queens have a chance to kick back and relax, but they had the opportunity for self-reflection and redirection.
Over the past 5 years, Iban Ifiok’s mission has been dedicated to improving the livelihood of Africans by cultivating queens one girl at a time. From our first workshop in June 2017 called “We are Iban Ifiok” where we introduced what the organization stands for and what we hope to accomplish to the Queens in attendance. In our second year in June 2019 our workshop was called “I Can, I Will” where we encouraged our Queens to be brave and courageous. Going towards our third year there were many uncertainties, however, despite the COVID-19 pandemic that proved to be challenging we persisted; in delivering valuable personal protective equipment to the community in our fourth year our workshop centered on “Embracing Our Power”. In our fifth year, we aim to do more community outreach programs and hold more workshops for our Queens. So far this year we have had our 5th-year anniversary celebration and our first Against All Odds event (read next post for more information on the event). We have indeed come a long way, but there is still more work ahead! Thank you to all of our supporters from the bottom of our hearts!
