The Iban Ifiok Foundation is proud to share the successful completion of the pilot phase of our Digital Literacy Training Program, themed “Closing the Digital Divide.” This initiative culminated in a heartwarming certificate presentation ceremony on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, where six committed young women were recognized for completing weeks of intensive training—marking a significant milestone in the program’s rollout.
Program Aims and Objectives
“Closing the Digital Divide” was launched with the mission of addressing the widening gap in digital access and skills—particularly among young women in underserved communities in Akwa Ibom State. The core objectives of the program include:
1. To Equip – Provide participants with essential, practical digital skills—from basic computer operations and file management to effective internet navigation and online safety practices.
2. To Empower – Build confidence and independence by equipping young women with the tools needed to access information, pursue online education, and improve their employability in an increasingly digital world.
3. To Bridge the Gap – Make meaningful progress in reducing digital inequality, ensuring girls and young women are not left behind in the digital revolution.
4. To Inspire – Foster a positive, supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and long-term interest in technology.
Program Impact
The impact of “Closing the Digital Divide” goes well beyond technical training.
• Impact on Participants: The six young women who completed the pilot program have emerged with not only foundational computer and internet skills but also with increased self-confidence and broadened aspirations. They are now better equipped to utilize online educational resources, communicate effectively using digital tools, and seize opportunities that were once out of reach.
• Impact on the Community: By investing in these young women, the Iban Ifiok Foundation is advancing digital inclusion in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and Nigeria at large. These graduates now serve as role models within their families and communities. Empowering girls with digital skills is a key step toward promoting economic growth, expanding access to knowledge, and creating a more equitable society. Each participant is now a catalyst for change, capable of sharing her knowledge and inspiring others to join the digital journey.
Certificate Ceremony
The closing ceremony, held on May 3rd, 2025, was a joyful celebration of achievement, perseverance, and growth. It was a proud moment for the graduates, their families, the trainer, and the Iban Ifiok Foundation team—marking a promising beginning in our mission to empower young women through digital education.
