Uyo, Akwa Ibom State – August 2, 2024 – The Iban Ifiok Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the empowerment of young people, particularly girls, has taken a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria as a whole. The foundation unveiled six brand-new laptops as the initial step in its proposed "Closing the Digital Divide Initiative," targeted at young girls between the ages of 12 and 19 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and Hope Emmanuel Orphanage in Osun State. These laptops will be used for the Iban Ifiok Digital Training Program and the empowerment of our young girls in Nigeria.
This initiative underscores the critical role of digital literacy in the 21st century. By providing access to technology and digital skills training, the Iban Ifiok Foundation is empowering young girls to become active participants in the digital age. This, in turn, will enhance their educational opportunities, career prospects, and overall life chances.
Research has shown that girls with access to technology and digital skills are more likely to excel in school, pursue higher education, and secure better-paying jobs. Furthermore, digital literacy empowers young women to be critical thinkers, problem solvers, and innovators.
The foundation is calling on individuals, organizations, and corporate bodies to partner with them in this noble cause. Donations of laptops, funds for digital literacy training, and other forms of support are welcome and will go a long way in ensuring the success of the "Closing the Digital Divide Initiative."
By working together, we can create a generation of digitally empowered young women who will contribute meaningfully to the development of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria as a whole.
